COMMISSIONING YOUR OWN MUSIC

We all have our own needs in music just as we do in food. We may need a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for ourselves or we may need a gourmet dinner for a hundred people. The analogy is that we may need a hymn tune in our right key with a nice piano accompaniment for use as an Offertory in church or we may need an addition to the literature of an instrument-- a virtuoso work for solo instrument and full symphony orchestra.

Brelmat Music can provide either and many things in between. The procedure is simple and has been time-tested. Outline what you have in mind via e-mail (type of piece, level of difficulty, length of performance, when needed, etc.) and Brelmat will respond. The fee will be reasonable and suited to the musical work. The client will have the premiere (if within six months of completion of the work) will receive the dedication on the printed copy and will have unlimited personal use of the piece in the future. Brelmat will own the copyright, will have the right to promote the work as a commissioned piece from ____________ and will, hopefully, sell copies in the future.

A plain letter of agreement will seal the bargain; one-half of the fee is payable at the signing of the agreement and the remainder when the work is received. For professional musicians this is a business expense and likely can be treated as such on tax returns meaning a "win, win proposition" for the musician who seeks music with which he can identify.
